- Carina Popovici is a co-founder and CEO of Art Recognition, a Zurich-based company that uses Artificial Intelligence to authenticate artworks. Combining a passion for art and technology, she's on a mission to integrating AI with traditional verification processes to improve objectivity, transparency, and trust in the art market. Carina holds a PhD in Theoretical Physics. After her research career, she transitioned into quantitative risk management in the Swiss financial industry. In 2018, while still working in banking, she began developing the prototype for Art Recognition’s AI authentication system. Driven by the project’s potential, she left finance to dedicate herself fully to building the company. Under her leadership, Art Recognition has developed proprietary AI technology that can authenticate artworks and identify forgeries. Her vision fosters innovation, openness, and excellence while advancing the role of AI in the art world. Carina’s work has been featured by major international outlets including "Wall Street Journal", "Financial Times, and "The Guardian". In 2025, leading art investment company Alpha Star invested USD 1 million in Art Recognition to support the company’s mission, accelerate its growth, and strengthen its market position.
