- Professor Dr Rachel A. J. Pownall is a Professor of Arts and Finance. She is the founding Programme Director of the Executive Master in Cultural Leadership developed together with the Royal Academy of Arts in London, and the TEFAF Curator Course. She is the Chair on supervisory board for the Contemporary Museum, the Hedge House at Wijlre Castle, in The Netherlands. Her research interests broadly cover the realm of understanding investor behaviour, with a particular focus on art markets and assets with an emotional attachment. Her work has been published in a number of international journals, including the European Economic Review and the Journal of Economic Behaviour and Organization, and has been covered by the New York Times, the Financial Times, the Times, and the Economist. She authored the TEFAF art market report, as well as the special issue of the Online Focus: Art Market Report. She is a co-editor for Springer for their book series on Art, Heritage, Law and the Market’. Rachel has taught for Sotheby’s Institute of Art, and has lectured at Christies Education, and the Royal Academy of Arts and regularly consults for practitioners. She has provided economic advice since 2001, for companies and intuitions, among others: the Fine Art Fund, London, UK, and her Fine Art Indexes constitute to the Mei & Moses ™ All Art Indexes for Beautiful Asset Advisors LLC. She obtained her PhD at Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2001, after obtaining a first-class degree in econometrics and economics. Rachel currently serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of International Money and Finance, the Journal of Behavioural and Experimental Economics, and Financial Research Letters.
